There are two ways to rent a kimono overseas
There are two ways to wear Miyakomon kimono overseas.
(1) Have it delivered to your home in Japan, and then take it with you as carry-on luggage overseas to use. (2) Have it delivered directly to your home overseas by courier.
Please choose according to your situation.
If you are a resident of Japan and will be traveling abroad for a week or two on a business trip or vacation, we recommend option (1). There are discounts on extension fees, so you can save even if you stay for a long period of time.
Your kimono will be delivered three days before your departure. We understand that you will be busy with preparations, but we encourage you to try it on before you leave so that you can wear it comfortably at your destination.
Please be aware of baggage restrictions.
We recommend that you pack your kimono into your own suitcase and transport it. Normally, we deliver the entire kimono in a cardboard box. If you wish, we can deliver it in a portable kimono bag and paper bag. However, this kimono bag is only designed for domestic travel on the Shinkansen and is not recommended for overseas use. Because it is not durable, there have been cases of damage when checked in on an airplane, so we ask that you pack your kimono into a durable suitcase.
Please note that kimono bags are too large and cannot be carried on board on both international and domestic flights.
The approximate weight of the complete set is as follows:
Total weight of kimono, obi, footwear, and dressing accessories (excluding cardboard boxes and kimono bags)
One set of visiting clothes 3kg
Men's complete kimono set (kimono and haori) 2.5kg
Kimono + Haori + Hakama set 3.2kg
Children's kimono set 2.5kg
The amount of space required for your suitcase will vary depending on the type of kimono, but it should be around 10-15L. Please be aware of this if you are using an airline with strict weight restrictions, such as a low-cost carrier.
If you live overseas or are staying overseas for an extended period of time, we recommend (2) direct overseas shipping.
Just like shopping on Amazon, simply add the kimono to your shopping cart and pay with your credit card. We will deliver it to you by FedEx or DHL one week before use. Please return it two days after use. While customs clearance for imports and exports is generally a time-consuming process, we handle all of this at our store, so with the exception of some countries, there is little burden on the customer. You can use your kimono anywhere in the world, anytime.
If you have any questions about wearing kimonos overseas, please feel free to contact us.
